What is almond moths?

Almond moths are a common pest in food storage areas. They are small, light brown moths with distinctive markings on their wings that resemble the letter "V." They lay their eggs on food sources such as almonds, nuts, grains, and pet food.

The larvae of almond moths are white and about 1/4 inch long. They spin silken webs and feed on the food source, often contaminating it with their excrement and webbing. Infestations of almond moths can cause significant damage to stored foods.

Preventative measures include storing food in airtight containers, regularly cleaning storage areas, and inspecting new food sources for signs of infestation before bringing them into the storage area. Infestations can be treated with pheromone traps, insecticides, or freezing the affected food for several days to kill the larvae.
